After you press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to log on to a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, the logon screen turns black. Although you cannot see what you are typing, you can successfully log on to the Windows Server 2003-based computer. Then, after you successfully log on, the screen becomes visible.

Note This symptom may occur on both the terminal server sessions and the local console. Additionally, this symptom occurs even if you start the computer in Safe mode.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if all the values under the following registry subkey are set to “0 0 0”:

HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Colors

Note The value data “0 0 0” means black.

WORKAROUND

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Fix Corrupt Event Log Files

One of the administrative tools in Microsoft Management Console, Event Viewer maintains logs about program, security, and system events on your computer. You can use Event Viewer to view and manage the event logs, gather information about hardware and software problems, and monitor Windows security events.

If Event Viewer reports on startup that one or more of your log files is corrupt, you can remedy the situation as follows:

  1. Open the Event Viewer.

  2. Rightclick on the corrupt log in the left pane and click Properties.

  3. Click the Clear button in the Properties dialog box.

You cannot delete or rename the log files while the Event Log service is running.

Manage site quotas and locks (Office SharePoint Server)

Applies To: Office SharePoint Server 2007

Quotas and locks are two ways of controlling access to site collections. Using locks, you can manually prevent user access. Using quotas, you can prevent users from adding content to a site collection, or you can send e-mail warnings to the site collection administrator when specified disk space thresholds (in megabytes [MB]) are exceeded. For more information about quotas and quota templates, see Manage quota templates (Office SharePoint Server).

  1. On the top navigation bar, click Application Management.

  2. On the Application Management page, in the SharePoint Site Management section, click Site collection quotas and locks. The Site Collection Quotas and Locks page opens.

  3. If you want to change the selected site collection, in the Site Collection section, on the Site Collection menu, click Change Site Collection. Use the Select Site Collection page to select a site collection.

  4. On the Site Collection Quotas and Locks page, in the Site Lock Information section, select one of the following:

    • Not locked   Select this option to make the site collection unlocked.

    • Adding content prevented   Select this option to prevent users from adding new content to the site collection. Updates and deletions are still allowed. You are required to type a reason for the lock in the Additional lock information box.

    • Read-only (blocks additions, updates, and deletions)   Select this option to prevent users from adding, updating, or deleting content. You are required to type a reason for the lock in the Additional lock information box.

    • No access   Select this option to prevent access to content entirely. Users who attempt to access the site will receive an access-denied message. You are required to type a reason for the lock in the Additional lock information box.

  5. In the Site Quota Information section, in the Current quota template list, click a quota for the site collection.

For more information about quota templates, see Manage quota templates (Office SharePoint Server).

  6. If you want to override the storage limit that is specified in the selected quota template, select the Limit site storage to a maximum of check box, and type a value in MB in the corresponding box.

  7. If you want to override the e-mail warning threshold that is specified in the quota template, select the Send warning e-mail when site storage reaches check box, and type a value in MB in the corresponding box.

What is the difference between a Major and a Minor version in SharePoint ?

In short…..

A “Major” is a PUBLISHED document.

A “Minor” is an UN-PUBLISHED document in DRAFT mode.

In order for regular users to view your page that is in DRAFT mode, also
known as “Minor” version, you first have to PUBLISH it, this creates a
“Major” version.

The user must belong to the “Approvers” group in order to see draft mode
pages or belong to the “site collection administrator” group; you can also
create a custom permission level called “Content Reviewer” for example.

1) Go to SITE SETTINGS -> SITE PERMISSIONS; from the SETTINGS menu, click on
PERMISSION LEVELS.
2) Click ADD A PERMISSION LEVEL and assign it a name of “Content Reviewer”
with the following permissions:

For LIST PERMISSIONS:
-Edit Items
-View Items
-Open Items

For SITE PERMISSIONS:
-View Pages
-Open

4) Then, go to “PEOPLE AND GROUPS” and in the GROUPS section click “New
Group” found under the NEW menu. Give it a name of “Content Reviewers” and
under “Give Group Permission to this Site” select the box labelled “Content
Reviewer”.

The users would only be able to review the draft content, but not approve it.

How do you get over my bad habit of procrastinating ?

I’ll answer your question, but first I need to explain all of human civilisation in 2 minutes with the aid of a cartoon snake.

Humans like to think we’re a clever lot. Yet those magnificent, mighty brains that allow us to split the atom and touch the moon are the same stupid brains that can’t start an assignment until the day before it’s due.

We evolved from primitive creatures, but we never quite shed ourselves of their legacy. You know the clever, rational part of your brain you think of as your human consciousness? Let’s call him Albert. He lives in your brain alongside an impulsive baby reptile called Rex:
